Dental implant cost depends on the treatment plan and which components are included in the quote. Because implant treatment is delivered in stages, two estimates can look very different even when the final result is similar. Understanding what each estimate covers helps you compare your options on a like-for-like basis before making a decision.
Single-Tooth Versus Other Replacement Plans
For a single missing tooth, the cost is usually one implant, one abutment and one crown. Where several teeth are missing in a row, an implant-supported bridge may use fewer implants than there are missing teeth, which changes both the treatment plan and the total. A full arch may involve several implants supporting a bridge or denture. Replacing several teeth one-by-one is not always necessary, so ask how many implants your plan actually calls for and why. For a broader comparison of dentures, bridges and implants, see our guide to missing-tooth replacement options.
What an Implant Estimate Can Cover
Ask whether the estimate covers assessment and imaging, the implant, the connecting abutment and the final crown or other restoration. If additional treatment is recommended, ask for the associated fees and alternatives before proceeding.
Assessment and Planning
Your assessment considers your teeth, gums and available jawbone, along with your medical history. Imaging such as X-rays may be recommended to plan the implant position. Ask whether these appointments and images are included in the quote.
The Implant and Connecting Abutment
The implant is the titanium fixture placed in the jawbone, and the abutment connects it to the final restoration. Some quotes list these together and others separately, so check the components included before comparing the overall figure.
The Final Crown or Restoration
Once the implant has healed, it is restored with a crown, bridge or denture. This is a separate stage in many treatment plans, so confirm whether it is part of the quoted fee or quoted separately.
Additional Treatment That May Be Recommended
Where gum health or bone support needs attention, further imaging, preparatory treatment or specialist assessment may be discussed. Your dentist will explain why any additional care is recommended, what it involves and what it costs, so you can consider the alternatives first. You can read more about the tooth replacement options available if you would like to consider alternatives such as a denture or bridge.
Healing and Review Appointments
After the implant is placed, bone takes time to heal around it — often a few months — before the final restoration is attached. That gap is normal, not a delay. Ask whether the quote covers the review appointments during healing, and after the restoration is fitted there are ongoing checks of the implant and surrounding gums. Those reviews continue for the life of the implant, so they belong in your longer-term plan as well as the initial estimate.
Current Verified Practice Fees
Our fees page carries a "from" figure for implant treatment, not a fixed price. A starting fee is a useful reference, but it cannot reflect your case: whether one or several implants are proposed, whether the abutment and crown are included, and whether any preparatory work is needed all move the total. We don't publish a figure that pretends otherwise — after your assessment we give you a written estimate itemising what is included. If a price you have seen elsewhere looks much lower, ask what it leaves out before comparing it.
Comparing Quotes Fairly
A cheaper headline figure is not necessarily a cheaper treatment — it may simply omit a stage. Compare quotes line by line against the same list: assessment and imaging, the implant and abutment, the final restoration, any preparatory treatment, healing reviews and ongoing maintenance. Ask about the expected number of visits and the review appointments included. Our fees page lists indicative fees, and we will confirm the inclusions that apply to your recommended plan after your assessment.
Planning Your Implant Treatment
Implant treatment often involves healing time between stages, and a personalised written plan can help you plan for the visits and fees involved.
